BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia – The Arkansas men’s golf team followed up Monday’s dominant second round by running away from the field Tuesday to record an 11-shot victory at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate at Pete Dye Golf Club.

The Razorbacks capture a tournament title for the 11th consecutive season as head coach Brad McMakin has guided Arkansas to 23 victories in 11 years, including 18 during the last six seasons.

“I’m very proud of this young group this week,” McMakin said. “It was the third week in a row they were in position to win and it was nice to see them come through with a victory. They have put in a lot of hard work since they arrived on campus and I’m really excited about the rest of the season.”

Arkansas pulled away from the field in the second round with an 8-under 280 and never looked back. The Razorbacks posted rounds of 290-280-288 – 858 (-6) and were the only team under par as Mississippi State finished second at 5-over and Akron took third at 11-over.

Freshman Luis Garza opened his final round with two bogeys and one triple bogey in the first four holes, but he bounced back and played well beyond his years, recording five birdies over the final 11 holes to finish alone in fourth place. He has three consecutive top 20 finishes, including two of those in the top five.

Alvaro Ortiz continued his consistent play and added his fourth straight top 20 finish to his junior résumé. Ortiz signed for rounds of 71-69-75 – 215 (-1) to finish T-5th overall. He has finished under par in seven of his 12 rounds this fall.

Dylan Naidoo opened his final round with a slew of birdies, recording six on the front side to make the turn with a 5-under 31. He added one more birdie on the back nine and finished T-5th at 74-71-70 – 215 (-1) for the first top five finish of his collegiate career.

Charles Kim and Mason Overstreet capped the team’s performance as Kim finished T-23rd at 4-over, while Overstreet recorded an eagle in the final round and finished T-25th at 5-over for the championship.

Arkansas will have a week off before returning to action on Oct. 24-25 at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Florida. The 54-hole event will be played at the Quail Valley Golf Club.
