Noting the RazorbacksIt was a roller coaster week for the Arkansas baseball team … After earning their first No. 1 ranking in any poll, the Hogs (24-8, 10-4 SEC) went on to sweep fellow No. 1 Arizona St. at Baum Stadium in two games (7-3, 8-7) … The emotional high of their midweek victories had a hangover as Vanderbilt came to town and took two games from the Razorbacks (9-0, 13-6), the third game of the series was cancelled due to inclement weather … The Razorbacks earned their first No. 1 Ranking in Collegiate Baseball and were ranked anywhere between No. 1 and No. 12 depending on the poll … Arkansas set an attendance record in its game with Arizona State on Wednesday, April 8 as 11,014 fans packed into Baum Stadium, the Hogs also set a record with 11,434 tickets sold for the contest … The Wednesday night crowd broke the previous records of 10,727 tickets sold and 10,581 actual attendance set on May 5, 2007 against LSU … Arkansas’ back-to-back losses against Vanderbilt is just the first time this season that the Razorbacks have lost two games in a row … The Razorbacks’ weather shortened series with Vanderbilt is the second straight year that the two teams have only been able to play two of their three games due to weather … In the Arizona State series, Arkansas had to battle back from early deficits, 3-1 in game one and 6-1 in game two … In both instances big innings gave the Razorbacks the lead as they scored five in the seventh in the first game and innings of four and three in the fourth and fifth of game two … Senior Andrew Darr had a monster series against Arizona State batting .500 over the two games with four hits, two runs and five RBI … Arkansas’ pitching was also very effective as five of the seven hurlers produced ERAs under 3.60 and all but one allowed two earned runs or less … Sophomore right-handed pitcher Sam Murphy also looked strong as he tossed three innings of relief between the two games and allowed one run on two hits and also stranded two inherited runners in game two in the eighth inning with Arkansas clinging to a one-run lead … Sophomore Brett Eibner had a solid week for the Razorbacks as he continues to improve after a prolonged slump to begin the season … Eibner batted .500 over three games with a double and home run, two runs scored and a walk and on the mound he tossed five innings against Arizona St. allowing just two runs and striking out three.
