Arkansas Earns Eight All-SEC Selections from League Coaches

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas garnered eight selections on the All-Southeastern Conference teams selected by league coaches it was announced on Tuesday. The Razorbacks racked up four first-team and four second-team spots to rank tied for second among league schools with eight total selections. LSU led league schools with 10 players chosen while Florida tied Arkansas for second with eight selections.

Junior tailback Darren McFadden, junior center Jonathan Luigs and senior offensive guard Robert Felton earned first-team honors on offense. McFadden has rushed for a school-record 1,725 yards this season and has earned 100 yards or more in nine of Arkansas’ 12 games. Luigs and Felton have helped clear the way for a league-leading rushing attack and the nation’s third-leading rushing offense with the Hogs averaging 296.8 yards per game. Luigs has been named first-team All-American and is a Rimington Trophy finalist while Felton has garnered second-team All-America honors already this season.

Junior Felix Jones was the only league player to earn multiple spots on the All-SEC squads. Jones earned a position on the first-team listing as a return specialist. The Tulsa, Okla., native led the SEC and ranked third in the nation in kickoff returns with a 31.3 yards-per-attempt average. Jones also garnered recognition from league coaches on the second team as a running back. This season, Jones turned in his second-consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season earning 1,117 yards and 11 touchdowns.

A pair of UA offensive linemen and a Razorback cornerback also earned honors with second-team all-conference selections. Senior offensive tackle Nate Garner and junior offensive guard Mitch Petrus captured the first All-SEC honors of their career after blocking for a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, a Doak Walker semifinalist (Jones) and a Doak Walker finalist (McFadden). Senior Michael Grant earned recognition as a second-team defensive back. Grant was the Razorbacks’ starter at free safety for the first two games of the season, but switched to cornerback and started at that position for the remainder of the season. Grant has 71 tackles and three interceptions this season and ranks among the nation’s leaders in pass defended.
