Arkansas Fires Even Par in Opening Round of UHH Intercollegiate

WAIKOLOA, Hawai’i. – The University of Arkansas men’s golf team fired an even-par 284 in the opening round of the University of Hawai’i at Hilo Intercollegiate on Wednesday afternoon at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

The Razorbacks are tied for 16th place with Stanford after the opening round, 16 shots off the lead of No. 3 Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets fired a 16-under-par 268 in the first round. Second-ranked Oklahoma State is four shots back at 272. Southern California is in third place with a 10-under 274, while Hawai’i is fourth with a 275 and Pepperdine rounds out the top five at 277.

Junior Matt Bortis led the Hogs’ attack with a 3-under-par 68 on Wednesday. It was his fifth round in the 60s this season and placed him in a tie for 11th place heading into Thursday’s second round.

Junior Beau Glover is tied for 34th after a 1-under par 70 in round one. Sophomore Eric Shriver turned in a 2-over-par 73. Freshman Jordan Payne matched Shriver’s score and both are tied for 74th. Scotty Campbell shot a 7-over-par 78 on Wednesday and sits in 101st position heading into Thursday.

Oklahoma State’s top-ranked Pablo Martin leads the event after firing a 7-under-par 64 in the opening round. Georgia Tech’s Cameron Tringale and Hawaii’s Jarett Hamamoto are tied for second after rounds of 65.

The Razorbacks will tee off for their second round at 11 a.m. (7 a.m. in Hawai’i) on Thursday. The event finishes up on Friday with the final 18 holes.
