Arkansas hosts Indiana State Wednesday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team returns to Lady’Back Yard on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Indiana State that begins at 3 p.m.

The Lady Razorbacks enter the midweek contest with a 19-6 record after taking one game from South Carolina on the road this past weekend. The Sycamores are 6-8 and travel to Fayetteville after a match up with Central Arkansas on Tuesday.

“After being on the road for five of the last six weekends, we are really excited to be at home,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “We’ve played well at home and I feel good about where we’re at. Hopefully we can we can make some adjustments Wednesday and get prepared for Florida.”

The Lady’Backs won just one of their last five games, but still hold the best start in program history. Arkansas is 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference and already out to a better start in league play than last year.

Sophomore Jessica Bachkora got out to a great start in conference, hitting .500 on the weekend with four hits, one double and three runs.

Arkansas extended its season home run record to 30, after a game-winning, three-run shot by sophomore Sandra Smith in Columbia, S.C. The home run marked Smith’s ninth of the season, which sets the individual season record.

While sophomore Miranda Dixon (7-2) picked up her first SEC win against the Gamecocks, freshman Kim Jones (2-2) got in a flurry of trouble quickly, throwing to just five batters before she was relieved by senior Katy Henry. Jones looks to rebound with a strong performance against Indiana State.

“Kim’s going to pitch tomorrow,” said Pinkerton. “She’s pitched well in several starts this year, but she’s had a couple of rough outings like most freshmen do. We’ve got to get her back out there and get her some confidence.”

Jones earned wins from Northern Iowa and Iowa this season and struck out a season-high eight batters in four innings against Alcorn State.
