Arkansas looks to keep rolling with start of main draw qualifiers

FAYETTEVILLE – Junior Aurelija Miseviciute leads the Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis team that hopes to continue advancing with the start of the main draw qualifiers of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.

In singles and doubles action, the Lady Razorbacks run into three players from the University of Texas.

“Texas always has great teams, and we know they are going to bring their top game,” said Lady’Back head tennis coach Michael Hegarty, as his team practiced in the Los Angeles sun on Monday. “We will be strongly tested, but I feel our team is well prepared.”

Ranked No. 119 in the nation, Miseviciute is set to play the No. 84 ranked women’s player, Courtney Zauft of Texas on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. After winning two straight matches, Miseviciute made it to the qualifier by defeating Georgia Tech’s Noelle Hickey is dramatic fashion, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

Miseviciute and teammate Ela Kaluder, who are the No. 57 ranked doubles pair in the nation, face off against No. 37 ranked Marija Milic and Vanja Corovic of Texas on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Lady’Back duo has already defeated one University of Texas pair in the semifinals of the pre qualifier, when they slid past Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson, 9-8 (4).

Both singles and doubles action will play into the second round on Tuesday, while the third round, the main draw qualifier finals, will conclude on Wednesday.
