Arkansas Soccer Challenges for SEC Tournament Berth

What a difference a week makes! We were able to sweep both Kentucky and Vanderbilt at home this past week to even our SEC record to 4-4-0 and 11-5-0 for the season. There is no point in looking back to the games against Alabama and Auburn and wishing what might have / should have been – we need to look forward.

We currently sit tied for 7th in SEC league play with three games remaining; all three games are against nationally ranked opponents. On Thursday of this week we play #7 ranked Florida in Gainsville and then we are back home this Sunday (26th October) against # 25 ranked South Carolina. The following Friday we play #17 ranked LSU in Baton Rouge. As you can see, our last three games are not easy – especially since two of them are away from home, however, I do not think that I have seen a more confident squad in a long time. They can’t wait for the games and are relishing the opportunity to pull off some upsets. The SEC is very tight (as usual) with only three points separating us from third place and only 4 points separating fourth from 9th place! The top eight teams make the SEC tournament and given the strength of our league, puts them all in position for an NCAA tournament berth. The team understands that in order to reach the SEC Tournament they probably need to win one more game…..not easy – but we are certainly up for the challenge! The fact that we are even talking about SEC tournament and NCAA tournament berths is a great step forward for our program.

Wish us well in Florida on Thursday and hopefully we will see you all in the stands for our last home game of the season on Sunday. It is Senior day and we will be recognizing our four seniors; Abbey Wilburn, Megan Fawley, Lindsay Patterson and Whitney Allison.

Remember – the game time for Sunday has changed to 12:30pm!!

See you all then.

Go Hogs!
