Arkansas Soccer Lines Up to Take On SEC Soccer Heavyweights

SEC play began last week in exciting fashion!

We played a very good Ole. Miss side last Friday. Kelly O’Connor gave us a 1-0 lead with a laser of a shot from 30yds. Despite heavy pressure from a very fast and athletic Ole. Miss side we were able to hold a 1 – 0 lead late into the game. However, with less than 2 minutes left, Ole Miss. snuck one home from a corner kick and eventually won in overtime. Obviously, we were bitterly disappointed with the loss after being so close to a huge upset as Ole. Miss was the heavy favorite in the game.

I was concerned about how we would respond in Sunday’s game against Mississippi State, especially given the enormous amounts of energy we had put out in Friday’s game. Not to worry, we controlled the game from start to finish and got goals from Patterson & O’Connor for a comfortable 2-0 win.

Looking ahead to this week, we welcome two of the SEC’s heavyweights to our field; Tennessee & Georgia.

On Friday @ 7:00pm, we play #21 Georgia. They are having a great year (9-1-0); last weekend they beat both #15 Florida and #12 South Carolina. We will need to be at our best but are relishing the challenge of playing such a quality side on our home field. We will be giving away 400 Arkansas decal stickers for your car as well as the 4 X $25.00 plus 2X $50.00 gas cards courtesy of Ingram/comets Soccer Club.

On Sunday we play # 6 ranked Tennessee (7-1-1). They are a very quick and athletic side with multiple national and regional team players. It should be a great test for our women. Obviously, both games will be real tests for us……but if we play well, who knows. Look at what nearly happened last weekend against a very good Ole. Miss side. We have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. Guaranteed, both games will be great games to watch. We will be giving away 150 Adidas hats as well as the gas cards. All of the usual program signings, bingo events, etc. are also in place.

If ever there were two games to have huge crowds at…… it would be these two!

I think you are in for a treat.

See you at the game.

Go Hogs!
