This WeekThe University of Arkansas softball team travels to College Station, Texas, for the Texas A&M Aggie Classic. The Lady Razorbacks compete against tournament host No. 3 Texas A&M, Texas-SanAntonio and Rutgers.
It’s out of hereSophomore Kayla Johnson hit the first home run of the season against Virgnia on Sunday. It was a solo home run to left field with two outs in the top of the first inning.
Freshman Lead the WayFreshman Jessica Bachkora and Miranda Dixon posted the highest batting averages on the team after the first Lady’Back tournament. Bachkora hit .643 with nine hits, one RBI and two stolen bases. Dixon batted .444 with four hits.
Hitting StreaksSenior Rachel LeMaster and Bachkora got atleast one hit in every game of the tournament posting a five-game hitting streak. Bachkora had three multiple hit games as well.
About Texas A&MThe Aggies are ranked third on the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll for this week. They upset No. 1 Arizona, 3-2, and also beat No. 4 Northwestern and No. 3 UCLA over the weekend. Texas A&M is 5-0.
Versus the AggiesTexas A&M leads the all-time series 4-0 versus Arkansas. The Aggies won the last meeting 6-2 in 2002
About Texas-San AntonioThe Roadrunners have a 1-4 record with their lone win coming against Texas State, 3-2.UTSA lost against No. 7 Alabama by a score of 10-3. They made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season and return nine letterwinners.
Versus the RoadrunnersUTSA leads the series 1-0 against Arkansas. Their last meeting was in 1999 when the Roadrunners defeated the Lady’Backs 3-2.
About RutgersThe Scarlet Knights open their 2007 season this weekend. The team returns 15 letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished 15-37. Rutgers is coached by first-year head coach Jay Nelson.
Versus the Scarlet KnightsThis is the first meeting between Arkansas and Rutgers.
