Arkansas softball 11-0 in fall seasonThe Lady Razorback softball team was undefeated in the 2007 fall season, playing NJCAA, NAIA, NCAA Division II and three NCAA Division I teams. The Lady’Backs beat DI squads Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Missouri State.
Lady’Backs’ top offensive threatsSophomores Sandra Smith and Jessica Bachkora led Arkansas’ offense this fall. Smith posted a .417 batting average and Bachkora was right behind her hitting .400. Smith had 10 hits, four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs scored. Bachkora tallied 14 hits, two doubles, four RBIs, 12 runs and six stolen bases.
Two game-winning hitsIn addition to a game-winning hit against Tulsa, Smith laced a solo home run in the fourth inning against Crowder to lift the Lady’Backs over the Lady’Riders 1-0.
Arkansas twirlers shut down opponentsThe Lady’Back pitching staff combined for four shutouts in 11 games. Freshman Kim Jones and sophomore Miranda Dixon threw complete game shutouts Oct. 6 against Oklahoma State and Missouri State, respectively. Senior Katy Henry combined with Jones and freshman Layne McGuirt for two shutouts.
Henry’s fall statsHenry recorded 39 K’s in four fall tournaments. She posted a 3-0 record with a 0.88 ERA, four starts and two complete games. Henry’s best performance was 11 K’s versus Evangel.
In the circleThe Arkansas pitching staff combined for a 0.49 ERA this fall. It also held its opponents to a .147 batting average.
Freshman posting impressive numbersFreshman Leslie Dixon had the best numbers out of the nine newcomers. L. Dixon hit .333 playing in eight games. She had six hits, four RBIs, three runs and a perfect fielding percentage.
Lady’Back defenseFifteen Lady’Backs had fielding percentages of 1.000 in the fall. Arkansas’ overall fielding percentage was .967, compared to .950 for its opponents. The Lady’Backs committed 10 errors in 11 contests.
2008 Arkansas Softball scheduleThe 2008 softball season begins Feb. 8-10 with the Century Bank Classic in Texarkana, Ark. The softball schedule was released last week with 11 NCAA Tournament teams, two Women’s College World Series teams and 20 home dates highlighting the schedule.
