Arkansas Spirit Squads Shine at Camp

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The 2007-08 Razorback Cheerleaders, Pom Squads and Mascots have recently returned from Universal Cheer/Dance Association Collegiate Camp in Milwaukee, Wis. The camp held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee hosted approximately 2000 college cheerleaders, dancers and mascots.

Squads from as far away as Puerto Rico attended and many athletic conferences were represented. Squads from the University of Kentucky, University of Oklahoma, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin, University of Kansas, University of Minnesota, University of Indiana and Michigan State University were among those participating in the four-day clinic and competition. All the camp participants enjoyed 80-degree weather and the beautiful practice field that was located on the shore of Lake Michigan.

All squad members participated in discussions and seminars on cheerleading safety, ideas for increasing school spirit, team building and game planning. The cheerleaders attended classes on stunting, pyramid building, tumbling, and game material. Our pom squads/RBI girls learned new dance routines for basketball halftimes, football and basketball sidelines and Razorback baseball.

The Razorback Pom squads received two superior trophies, a trophy for their home routine and the Most Collegiate Trophy. The Razorback Mascots, Boss Hog, Big Red and Sue E., received second place in the overall camp championship.

The Razorback Cheer Red and White squads brought home the first and second place trophies in the Sideline competition, the second and third place trophies in the Cheer competition, the second and third lace trophies in the Fight Song competition and a superior trophy. They also received the Game Plan Trophy and the Most Collegiate Trophy.

The squads will return to campus on Sunday, August 12th to begin game material practices and pre-game practice with the Marching Razorback Band. The Razorback Cheerleaders and Pom squads have had a great camp experience and are very excited about all our Razorback and Lady Razorback teams. They are ready to "CALL THOSE HOGS!"
