Last weeks SEC road swing did not go well for the Razorbacks as they dropped a pair of games to South Carolina and Florida, but with their only back-to-back road contests out of the way, Arkansas turns its attention to the Auburn Tigers who enter Bud Walton Arena for a Tuesday night affair beginning at 8 p.m.
Tuesday’s contest will include basketball trading cards for the first 5,000 fans in attendance and the halftime activities will entertain fans with the Razorback Pom Squad and the Razorback Band Drumline.
Arkansas (12-6, 2-3 SEC) dropped back-to-back games for just the first time this season last wekk and hope to right the ship and even its SEC record on Tuesday. THe Razorbacks are undefeated inside Walton Arena this year at 11-0 and have great wins against Oklahoma, Tennessee and Alabama on its home court.
Sophomore Marshawn Powell continues to impress the Razorback coaches, staff and fans as he posted his fifth straight double digit scoring performance at Florida. Powell’s longest stretch is seven games. The Newport News, Va., native is shooting better than 50 percent in his last five contests which included a pair of big dunks in the Florida contest.
Auburn (7-12, 0-5 SEC) has struggled all season long, but do have a very good win against Florida State to hang its hat on. The Tigers are winless in SEC action after a tough 68-58 decision to in-state rival Alabama on Saturday. The Tigers are led by Earnest Ross who is averaging 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds off the bench. Ross tallied a game high 20 points in 33 minutes for Auburn against Alabama as he accounted for nearly half of the Tigers scoring. Josh Williams is emerging as a point guard as he averages 4.0 assists per game while scoring 5.3. Kenny Gabriel is also a solif player with 9.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
The Arkansas-Auburn game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call. The game will also be carried live on TV by ESPNU with Clay Matvick and Jay Williams calling the action.
Following the contest with Auburn, Arkansas travels to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m.
