Arkansas Volleyball Alumni Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team closed out its Alumni weekend with a match against the former players Saturday evening at Barnhill Arena. Playing in front of more than 100 fans, the two teams played four sets of volleyball in the exhibition with the current Razorbacks coming away with wins in each frame. In addition to the Arkansas Alumni match, the players enjoyed an outing to Friday night’s baseball game against Kentucky.

"It’s always fun to have the alumni back," head coach Robert Pulliza said. "It’s always a great time having former players come back to where they played and seeing all of the players, past and present, interact with each other before having some fun on the court with the Alumni match."

The Alumni roster was scheduled to feature Kim (Storey) Chronister (1995-98), Kelli Cole (2004-07), Jessica Dorrell (2004-07), Christina Lawrence (2004-08), Ashley Miller (2004-07), Jessica (Field) Phelan (1995-98), Kristin Seaton (2005-09) and Jenny (Rangelova) Kirk (2000-01). Destiny Clark (2005-08) and Anna (Velikanova) Vester (2000-02) were also in attendance but did not play.

Saturday’s Alumni match marked the third of five competition dates for the spring season. The Razorbacks opened the exhibition schedule with two tournaments in Houston, the Texas Tornadoes College Spring Tournament and Rice Invitational.

"I’m excited to see where we are at this midway point of the spring," Pulliza said. "Offensively, we keep making great strides. As we go into the second half of the spring, we will put most of our emphasis on the defensive end of the game, especially with our blocking efforts."

Arkansas will take the next two weeks to train before returning to the court. The Razorbacks’ next competition is scheduled for the weekend of April 17 when the team plays in the Blue Valley West Tournament in Overland Park, Kan. The spring closes with an April 24 home match against Missouri State at Barnhill Arena.
