Arkansas volleyball travels to Georgia Sunday

ATHENS, Ga. –The University of Arkansas volleyball team travels to Athens, Ga., for the final Southeastern Conference road match of the 2007 season against the Georgia Bulldogs Sunday.

Georgia is having a turn around year with a 17-10 overall record and an 8-9 SEC mark. A far cry from their six-win season just a year ago. The match airs live in the Northwest Arkansas area on KXUA, 88.3 FM.

“Georgia is a much-improved team,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “They have a new coach this year and are playing for a possible NCAA Tournament bid. They are working to get above .500 overall and in the SEC and they need the win against us. That being said, we had some earlier season success against Georgia and we know it’s a challenging but winnable match for us.”

Arkansas is coming off a four-game win at Auburn Friday that stopped a six-match skid for the Lady Razorbacks. A balanced attack paced by double-doubles from senior Jessica Dorrell and freshman Heather Royal saw the Lady’Backs play as well as they had all season.

Eighth-ranked Florida remains on top of the SEC standings followed by Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Kentucky as the season winds down to the final weekend. Georgia is sixth overall with Mississippi State, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee and Auburn rounding out the standings.

The Lady Razorbacks return to Barnhill Arena hosting Tennessee and Kentucky as the league schedule concludes for the season. Arkansas’ match with Kentucky is a 1:00 p.m. start and will celebrate Senior Day as the Lady’Backs honor Dorrell, Ashley Miller and Kelli Cole who will play in their final SEC match.

The Lady’Backs conclude the season Saturday, Nov. 24, hosting non-conference opponent Connecticut in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
