Final Fall Event And just like that, the 2008 fall season is coming to a close this weekend. Arkansas plays in its fourth and final event before the winter break traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Name Change This event was originally named the Peg Barnard Invitational but Stanford’s website, gocardinals.com, now lists it as the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Making the trip Arkansas has been pretty steady in the traveling five and does not change this week. The Razorbacks travel lone senior Lucy Nunn, juniors Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte, sophomore Kelli Shean and freshman Katy Nugent.
Arkansas at the Stanford Intercollegiate Arkansas is making the program’s second appearance at the Stanford Intercollegiate Invitational this weekend. The Razorbacks appeared at the event in 2006 finishing 10th of 15 teams. Arkansas carded a 305-192-290=886 that year.
About the course The Stanford University Golf Course was designed in 1930 by renowned golf course architects William Bell and George C. Thomas, Jr. Located in the foothills above the Stanford University Campus, the golf course is consistently rated one of the finest courses in the world. In 1998, the golf course was rated 91st in the country by Golf Week Magazine and in 1993 was rated 88th in the world by Golf Magazine.

This year’s team Arkansas returns four of five players from last year’s NCAA Tournament team and all but three players from last year’s roster. The returners include lone senior Lucy Nunn, who won her first amateur event over the summer. Joining Nunn are juniors Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte and sophomore Kelli Shean from last year’s traveling five. Also back is junior Natalie Beach, juniors Tiffany Phelps, Corinna Rees and Tanica van As.
Lone Newcomer Arkansas has one newcomer for the 2008-09 season. Freshman Katy Nugent joins the Razorbacks from Kansas after a solid prep career. Look for Nugent to challenge for one of the five traveling spots early this year.
Shean earns SEC academic honor Lone freshman Kelli Shean represented the women’s golf team on the 2008 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll . Shean, a general business major from Cape Town, South Africa, was a leader on and off the course. She finished the year third on the team in stroke average and earned selection to the SEC All-Freshman team.
