Arkansas Women's Golf Fact Sheet #9

The Season Has Been A SprintArkansas is starting the postseason after a fast spring. The Razorbacks returned to the links March 13 after the winter break and pushed through four events in a month to get to this point. Arkansas travels to the SEC Championship followed by the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships as the season continues.
About The SEC ChampionshipArkansas is making the program’s 14th SEC Championship appearance since adding women’s golf for the 1995-96 season. The SECs are hosted by South Carolina for just the second time since the Razorbacks have had golf and the Gamecocks have not hosted since 1997. In fact, the Razorback program has not competed inside the boarders of South Carolina since the 1999-00 season when they took part in the Lady Gamecock Classic.
Carolina on my mindSouth Carolina is no stranger to the coaching staff at Arkansas. Head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor is from Orangeburg, S.C. Assistant coach Mike Adams worked five years at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C., before becoming a Razorback.
Making the tripArkansas has been pretty steady in the traveling five and does not change this week. The Razorbacks travel lone senior Lucy Nunn, juniors Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte, sophomore Kelli Shean and freshman Katy Nugent.
This year’s fieldThis week’s field trims down to 12 teams, slightly smaller than the recent 18-team fields Arkansas has been facing. As the Razorbacks head into SEC action, Arkansas has the comfort of having faced 10 of the 11 other SEC members this spring. The Razorbacks faced the 11th team (Florida) in the second tournament of the fall season. This year, Arkansas is 12-20 against the league in head-to-head action and Arkansas has wins over eight of the 11 other league members. Auburn and Alabama are the top-ranked SEC teams this year. The Tigers are sixth in the Golfweek and Golf World polls and seventh in the Golfstat poll while the Crimson Tide are sixth in the Golfstat, seventh in the Golf World and eighth in the Golfweek polls.
