FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas tennis players Tiago Azevedo and Eduardo Pacheco had success in one individual draw tournament while Talley Parker and Gary Nunn struggled in a separate tournament.
Playing at East Tennessee State, Azevedo won two matches to reach the quarterfinal round before being eliminated by Tennessee’s Simon Rea, 6-2, 6-2. Pacheco lost his first-round match but eliminated the No. 2 seed, Wade Orr of Tennessee, in the consolation round, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Azevedo and Pacheco, seeded second, won their first-round match to advance in the tournament, which concludes on Sunday.
In another tournament at Wichita State, Parker and Nunn each went 1-2 in singles play.
“I’m pleased with the way Tiago advanced to the quarters and that was a good win for Eduardo in the consolation round,” UA head coach Robert Cox said. “In the other tournament, they bounced back and each got a win, so that was good.”
