Bachkora and Dixon earn SEC All-Freshman honors

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas freshmen Jessica Bachkora and Miranda Dixon were named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league announced today. Bachkora, an outfielder from Overland Park, Kan., was the team leader in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, total bases and on-base percentage. Dixon, the Edmond, Okla., native led the team in home runs setting the single-season home run record in her first year. “I’m very happy for Jessica and Miranda,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “Both players are very deserving of the honor. They represent the team, the University and the conference well. I hope they take the honor and use it as a building block for their career.” Bachkora posted the highest batting average on the team all season and set the triple record for an individual season with five triples. She also set the single-game triple record with two triples against Missouri, Feb. 25. Starting every game in center field, Bachkora had a team high 14 multiple-hit games. Dixon had 10 multiple-hit games, a six-game hitting streak and five multiple-RBI games. She went 7-for-7 with three home runs (two in one game), seven RBIs and four runs on March 4 to lead Arkansas to two wins. Dixon also had a 3.07 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 139.0 innings pitched. The freshmen were two of 14 SEC All-Freshman selections and were only the seventh and eighth Lady’Backs in Arkansas school history named to an all-SEC team. The last honoree was Rachel LeMaster in 2005. For more information about Arkansas softball, please log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
