PONTE VEDRA Beach, Fla. – Former Arkansas men’s golf All-American David Lingmerth will return to the PGA TOUR for the third straight year after earning his PGA TOUR card on Sunday at the Web.com Tour Championship held at TPC Sawgrass.
Entering the last Web.com Tour finals event at No. 17 on the priority list, Lingmerth held onto that spot with a final round five-under 65, which was the lowest round of the day turned in by the field, to finish in sole possession of sixth place at seven-under. A native of Sweden, Lingmerth finished in the top 30 of all four four Web.com Tour finals events.
Lingmerth will begin his third straight year on the PGA TOUR in just three weeks when the 2014-15 season gets underway at the Frys.com Open (Oct. 9-12) in California. Over his first two years on the PGA TOUR, Lingmerth has 10 top 25s and five top 10s.
The top 50 players on the Web.com Tour priority list earn their PGA Tour Card following this weekend’s event. The priority list is made up of the top 25 players on the money list from the Web.com Tour regular season and the top 25 players on the money list from the four finals events.
Fellow Arkansas products Tag Ridings (1997) and Sebastian Cappelen (2014) finished outside the top 50 on the priority list. Ridings entered the day in the 50th and final spot but dropped 11 spots on the Web.com Tour Championship leader board to a tie for 40th and No. 54 on the priority list.
It was a great rookie season on the Web.com Tour for Cappelen who nearly secured his PGA Tour card during the regular season, finishing one spot out of the top 25 on the money list. Cappelen made the cut in three of the four finals events, but came up short at No. 70 on the priority list.
The only player in this week’s field from Denmark, Cappelen nearly made the top 25 regular season money list despite playing just 11 events. Cappelen started off his professional career with a bang in June, winning the Air Capital Classic with a score of 18-under par that earned him a spot on the Web.com Tour through 2015.
