The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team suffered its second loss of the season last Saturday to the defending national champion UConn Huskies, but have had a week to recover from the road trip and now prepare for another road test, this time in Norman, Okla., to face to Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. The Razorbacks (5-2) got great performances out of freshmen BJ Young (28 pts, five rebounds) and Devonta Abron (16 rebounds, eight points) in the Connecticut game, proving to everyone that they were not afraid of the spotlight of playing a highly-ranked team on the road. Arkansas also proved that it could bang down low with the best, out rebounding the Huskies by 12, which included 27 offensive rebounds. While there were several positives that came out of the UConn game, there were also some negatives. Arkansas struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 6-of-14, and shot just 31.2 percent from the floor. Both numbers were season lows as were their two blocked shots and four steals. The Razorbacks worked on all of the above during practice this week and look to improve against Oklahoma. The Sooners (6-1) are coming off a win against Oral Robertson on Thursday night, 73-59. Three Sooners scored in double figures, led by Steven Pledger who tallied 17 points. Pledger also leads the Sooners in scoring this season at 17.2 points per game, shooting 54 percent from the field and 45 percent from three. He is joined by four others who average double-digit scoring and the Sooners have 10 players who average 10-plus minutes per game. Arkansas and Oklahoma have traded wins in each of the last four years with the home team taking each meeting. Last season the Razorbacks defeated the Sooners at Bud Walton Arena, 84-74, but both schools feature new coaching staffs. The Arkansas-Oklahoma game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call. The contest will also be televised by the Razorback Sports Network with Scott Inman and Jimmy Dykes calling the action. The Razorbacks return to Bud Walton Arena for their next game against Southeastern Louisiana next Saturday, Dec. 17.
