Balanced Attack Leads to Win at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – Behind five players with 10 or more kills, the University of Arkansas volleyball team posted a four-set victory at Georgia on Friday evening. Danielle Harbin and Savanna Voelzke had 14 and 11 kills, respectively, while Barbara Dapic, Breana Jones and Ana Sofia Jusino each put down 10 kills. Defensively, sophomore libero Okiana Valle registered a match-high 24 digs and Jones, a Georgia native, put up eight total blocks.

The Razorbacks close out their weekend road trip Sunday afternoon at Mississippi State. First serve of the league matchup is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT) at the Newell-Grissom Building in Starkville. Arkansas’ next home match—and Senior Day—is Saturday, Nov. 26, when the team hosts No. 5 Florida at Barnhill Arena.

For the fifth time in the last six matches, the Razorbacks combined to reach double figures in blocks, finished the night with 12.5 total team blocks. With her eight blocks, Jones moves into the program’s career blocks top 20. The floor defense was paced by Valle and Kori Ortiz who picked up a season-high 11 digs. Valle’s performance marked her seventh match of the season with 20 or more digs. The sophomore libero now resides on the program’s top-15 career digs list.

After erasing an 11-point deficit but coming up short in the opener, Arkansas (7-20, 5-10 SEC) won seven of the first 10 points in the second set to take an early lead. The Razorbacks led by as many as five points in the set, leading 22-17 after back-to-back kills from Jusino and Voelzke. Arkansas had four set points at 24-20 but the home team erased the advantage to pull even at 24-all and 25-all. On the team’s sixth set point, Harbin went off the Georgia block to even the match.

Georgia (13-15, 1-14 SEC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third but the Razorbacks put together a string of kills to go ahead 7-5 on the scoreboard. With the score tied at 11-all, Arkansas won seven of the next nine points to take the 18-13 advantage with an ace by Harbin. The Razorbacks maintained a lead of at least two points for the remainder of the frame. On back-to-back points, Jones gave her team set point with a kill and followed with an ace to secure the third game.

The fourth set was tied 11 times through the first 30 points with the score tied at 15-15 after the setters exchanged second-contact kills. Arkansas used a quick 4-1 push to go ahead, leading 19-16 after Dapic split the block for a kill. Holding on to a 22-21 lead, the Razorbacks got a Jones-Harbin tandem block followed by a UGA attack error to arrive at match point. On the team’s second match point, Jusino sealed the win with her 10th kill.
