Baseball Hogs Ink Ten During Early Signing Per
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas head baseball coach Norm DeBriyn took advantage of the Nov. 10-17 early signing period to land commitments from 10 student-athletes for the 2000-2001 academic year.

Signing national letters-of-intent with the Razorbacks were: LHP Layne Berry; LHP/OF Keith Bucktrot; C/3B Cody Clark; C/RHP Peter Eberhardt; 1B/3B Ryan Fox; 3B Clay Goodwin; RHP Dustin Moseley; RHP Eric Mosely; RHP Scott Roehl and OF Andrew Wishy.

“This is a solid class,” UA head coach Norm DeBriyn said. “There are some great arms and position players in this group and we’re proud to have them join the Razorback family.”

Now a sophomore at Texarkana (Texas) College, LHP Layne Berry is one of two UA fall signees who are products of Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark. “He’s a crafty, left-hander who likes to changes speeds,” DeBriyn said. “He’s got a big-time change-up.”

A prep standout at Claremore (Okla.) High School, RHP/OF Keith Bucktrot’s versatility will be an asset to the Hogs. “He’s a solid two-way player who has a chance to contribute right away,” DeBriyn said.

The younger son of 24th-year UA baseball assistant coach Doug Clark, Cody Clark is a senior catcher at Fayetteville (Ark.) High School and no stranger to the Razorback program. “Cody is probably the best defensive catcher in the state,” DeBriyn said. “He has the potential to make an immediate impact on our club.”

A senior at Whittier (Calif.) Christian High School, C/RHP Peter Eberhardt is the lone Californian on the Hogs’ fall signing list. “He’s a big, physical kid who can hit for power and also pitch. He needs some work on the mound, but he’s been clocked in the 86 to 88 miles-per-hour range.”

1B/3B Ryan Fox is a sophomore at nearby Westark College in Fort Smith, Ark., and is a product of Rogers (Ark.) High School. DeBriyn calls him “a power-hitting corner man who should add some needed pop in the middle of our lineup.”

The Hogs added some additional depth at the hot corner with the signing of Benton (Ark.) High School senior 3B Clay Goodwin. “He’s a switch-hitter who can hit for power,” DeBriyn said. “He’s a solid player who should contribute immediately.”

Projected as an early-round pick in the June major league draft, RHP Dustin Moseley was a prep teammate of Arkansas freshman infielder Jon Youngblood at Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark. “He has the best arm in the state,” DeBriyn said. “He’s a hard thrower who can throw three pitches for strikes. His fastball has been clocked at 87 to 92 miles per hour.”

A senior at Bishop Kelly High School in Tulsa, Okla., RHP Eric Mosely should be a solid addition to the UA pitching staff. “He has one of the best arms in the state of Oklahoma,” DeBriyn said. “He has great potential to be a difference-maker in his freshman year.”

RHP Scott Roehl (pronounced “RAIL”) is a senior at Shoreland High School in Somers, Wis. “This kid has the best arm in Wisconsin,” said DeBriyn, himself a native of Ashland, Wis. “He’s a polished young man who has been clocked at 87 to 91 miles per hour with his fastball.”

OF Andrew Wishy of Raytown (Mo.) South High School will add a solid left-handed bat to the UA roster. “He’s a very gifted young man, both on and off the field,” DeBriyn said. “He will be a solid addition with his glove and his bat.”

After going 42-23 overall and claiming its first Southeastern Conference title with a 22-8 league record, Arkansas opens its 2000 season Feb. 5 against Missouri Southern at Baum Stadium.
