Benintendi's Big Night

ARLINGTON, Texas – A Fourth of July night that already had some fireworks scheduled got some extra fireworks from former Razorback outfielder Andrew Benintendi, who continued to show why he is one of the best players in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Last night at Globe Life Park against the Texas Rangers, Benintendi provided, arguably, his best game as a pro with a perfect 5-for-5 showing at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs. He also made a leaping catch in left field to rob Mike Napoli of extra bases as the Red Sox beat the Rangers, 11-4, for their 49th win of the season.

With his outing, Benintendi became the first Red Sox rookie with two five-hit games in the same season and is only the second player in MLB history, joining Joe DiMaggio, with a five-hit, two home run game before turning 23 years old.

Benintendi has played in 111 games since his major league debut (Aug. 2) and hasn’t slacked off in his first full season with the Red Sox. This year, Benintendi is hitting .288 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs. His average and RBI totals are both in the top-25 in the American League and his 10 RBIs over the last seven days is tied for the second-most in the major leagues.
