FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas defensive end Jake Bequette has been named one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday.
Bequette is tied for ninth on Arkansas’ all-time career sacks list with 14.5. The Little Rock, Ark., native has been named to watch lists for the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award, Ted Hendricks Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy. Bequette has recorded five tackles, 1.0 sack and one forced fumble this season. He missed three games due to injury early in the season but returned Oct. 8 vs. Auburn and made one tackle in Arkansas’ 38-14 win over the 15th-ranked Tigers.
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Bequette earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in three years and is pursuing his master’s degree. He was elected as a team captain in 2010 and 2011 and is one of the most active Razorbacks in the community.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 10 finalists are now placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. Fan voting begins immediately and continues through Dec. 5 at seniorCLASSaward.com. The winner will be announced during the bowl season.
This week, Arkansas travels to Ole Miss in a game featured on the SEC Network. Kickoff from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss., is set for 11:21 a.m.
