FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas women’s basketball player Calli Berna earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors the league office announced today. The Fayetteville, Ark., native has helped the Razorbacks to a program-best eight consecutive SEC wins including a pair of victories over No. 24 South Carolina and at Auburn. Berna began the year as a starter for Arkansas, starting the first 14 games. She moved to her role as one the top “sixth player” for the Razorbacks and has seen her numbers increase off the bench. This week, Berna connected on five three pointers in two games sparking the team to victories. She enters the week averaging 4.1 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game. Berna posted a career-best 13 points in the season-opener against Minnesota. Her three three-pointers in the win over Auburn Sunday was also a career high. Berna currently ranks 14th in the SEC in all games for assists with 2.7 per game. She has 68 assists in 25 games. She is seventh in three-point field goal percentage hitting 35 percent in all games. In SEC only games, Berna ranks ninth in assists, tied for seventh in steals and sixth in three-point field goal percentage. The Razorbacks return to action this week hosting LSU in the team’s annual Pink Game Thursday at 7 p.m. The game is televised by CST. Arkansas hosts Mississippi State Feb. 19, in the final home regular season game of the year.
