STAR OF THE GAME
Good things come in threes. It’s hard to single out just one Razorback in what was an even and efficient scoring attack in the team’s season-opener against Sam Houston State. Freshmen Jessica Jackson and Kelsey Brooks each scored 17 points to lead Arkansas in scoring, while classmate McKenzie Adams added in 16 points of her own. Combined, the freshman trio scored 50 of the team’s 81 total points (61 percent) and shot 44.8 percent as a group from the floor.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Back-to-back threes by Kelsey Brooks within the first five minutes of the first half were just a sign of things to come. The freshman ended the game 4-for-6 from three-point range and totaled 16 points in the game. As a team, Arkansas was 11-of-19 from downtown (57.9 percent).
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The opening tip. Tearing off a 14-4 run to begin the game, Arkansas controlled the contest the minute it took to the court on Friday. Fueled by 50 percent field-goal shooting and a 58 percent performance from three-point range, the Razorbacks ran away with the 81-45 win.
STAT OF THE GAME
While the offensive performance of the Razorbacks stole the show, it was the team’s defense that created a majority of Arkansas’ scoring opportunities. The Bearkats were forced into a total of 24 turnovers on the day. The Razorbacks translated those mistakes into 32 points off of turnovers alone.
