NEWPORT COAST, Calif. – Junior Ethan Tracy and freshman Will Pearson each shot two-over par rounds at the Battle of the Beach on Monday afternoon at the Pelican Hills Golf Club’s Ocean North Course to lead the No. 12 University of Arkansas men’s golf team.
The Razorbacks as a team were 15-over par on the day to finish the second of three rounds in a tie for seventh place. No. 25 San Diego leads the field with a two-round score of one-over par and holds a two stroke lead over Washington. No. 2 UCLA is six-over par as a team with Tennessee at 13 over and Arizona State at 14 over. The Razorbacks are just five strokes out of a top four finish at the second annual Battle at the Beach.
Tracy posted Arkansas’ most consistent round of the day as he finished with a birdie, three bogeys and 14 holes of par. A bogey on his first hole was erased on the par four fifth. Tracy recorded his second bogey on the seventh hole and finished the round with a bogey on the 17th.
Pearson’s round on Monday was similar to Tracy’s but included two birdies, four bogeys and 12 holed of par. Pearson was one-over par on the front nine and two-over par on the back side with both of his birdies coming on two of the four par three holes.
Sophomore Austin Cook, who was two-under par after day one, finished Monday at three over, a round that could have been better had he not posted a double bogey on his second hole of the day. Cook was two-over par after the second hole, and then recorded eight straight holes of par before a bogey on the 11th hole. Cook finished his round with seven holes of par.
Arkansas’ team score was completed by sophomore Josh Eure and freshman Sebastian Cappelen who each ended with scores of four-over par. Eure was even through the front nine, but a double bogey on the par five 17th, pushed him to four over on the back side and for the round. Cappelen’s day was the opposite of Eure’s as he played the front side at four-over par, then was even on the back nine including a birdie on the par four 18th.
