AS THE OTHER HOGS RUMBLE BY: Welcome to Bikes, Blues and BBQ weekend in Fayetteville. For the second year in a row, the massive motorcyle festival, dominated by Harley-Davidsons of all types, coincides with a Razorback soccer weekend. Tonight’s SEC home opener for Coach Erin Aubry’s team features the sound-track of thousands of Hogs.
Razorback football is open this weekend, but the rest of Arkansas fall athletics is — to keep the motorcyle theme going — full throttle. While soccer hosts Auburn tonight and Alabama on Sunday, Coach Robert Pulliza’s volleyball squad its the road for a key SEC East swing through South Carolina and Florida. The women’s cross country team is at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday as well.
If the Ryder Cup has your golf interest up, the Razorback men’s team opens the 2010-11 season on the road Saturday. Fall ball continues for Razorback softball, hosting Tulsa in a double-header on Saturday at Bogle Park.
The records are now set for next weekend’s Southwest Classic as Texas A&M dropped a heartbreaker at Oklahoma State. The 4-1 Aggies are the "home" team this year against the "visiting" 3-1 Razorbacks at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. next Saturday on ABC. We will be in Arlington with the interactive blog.
SUNDAY Y DOMINGO: Latino Day at Razorback Field for soccer against Alabama at 1 p.m. Along with special events and promotions, all game annoucements are in both English and en espanol.
HOOPS ARE AROUND THE CORNER: New rules for the women’s basketball team mean they can begin practice next week — not the traditional Oct. 15. Preseason practice follows more of a spring football type of calendar — 30 practices in the 40 days prior to first game.
SEASON TICKET RENEWAL DEADLINE APPROACHING: Speaking of basketball, your men’s basketball season ticket renewal deadline is upon us. Get yours in now.
REWIND BAMA: If you missed any of the hoopla surrounding the game, there were a lot of great videos posted by New Media during the week, including coverage of the big student pep rally, interviews with the Woo Pig City residents, the most famous pizza delivery man in Fayetteville and a recently posted wide-angle video of the football pregame. (Sorry for the one glimpse of the guy — me — checking that it’s still running). You can see the Silver Wings’ entry, the new A Walk, the team entry for both sides and a good look at the record crowd. Also, look at the RazorVision Academy’s second pre-game show of the season.
DIGG THE RAZORBACK NEWS: In addition to the blogs by several members of the Athletic Media Relations Office on their respective sports which are now providing links to other media outlets covering the Hogs, you can keep up with and recommend our stories and other links to your Razorback friends through the ArkRazorbacks personal feed at Digg.
