Boyer Haile earn weekly accolades

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorbacks Lane Boyer and Solomon Haile, members of the men’s cross country team, have been named the Southeastern Conference Runners of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

"Lane and Solomon had great races this weekend," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "Lane has really stepped up as a leader and the guys are following his lead. Solomon is a great addition to this squad. He is adjusting well to collegiate racing."

Boyer, a junior from Fredonia, Kan., was named the SEC Runner of the Week for his runner-up finish at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Boyer was the runner-up in the men’s 8,000-meter race. He clocked a time of 23:23.05. He replaced his previous 8K personal best, 24:40.0, by more than one minute. Boyer holds the SEC’s best time over 8,000 meters by 38 seconds.

Haile, a native of Silver Spring, Md., has been named the SEC Freshman Runner of the Week. Haile, in his second race in an Arkansas uniform, was the second Razorback to cross the finish line and was eighth overall at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Haile was the top freshman finisher, by 20 seconds, with his time of 24:01.79. He finished eighth overall and fifth among collegians. His 8K time is the second-fastest in the SEC and fastest among freshman runners.

The Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country team picked up their second team title of the season at the Missouri Southern Stampede. The Razorbacks outscored second-place finisher Pittsburgh State, 48-131. Arkansas scored three runners in the top 10, five in the top 18 and all finishers in the top 28. Two of Arkansas’ top five set 8K personal bests.
