Breault earns SEC weekly honors

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas second baseman Courtney Breault has been recognized by the Southeastern Conference as the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

The honor is the first for Breault in her Razorback career. Arkansas won two of three games in a weekend series at home against Ole Miss, the first SEC series win for the Razorbacks since they won a series at Georgia in early March.

"Courtney had a phenomenal weekend not only offensively but defensively as well," Arkansas coach Mike Larabee. "In the field I thought she made the plays that we needed and she was solid behind our pitchers. It is nice to see a freshman really stepping up this time of year and if she can continue to play as she has, it will be very important for us as we will need her down the stretch."

Breault led the team in nearly every offensive category over the weekend. The Roseville, Calif., native finished the series with a team-high .714 batting average, five hits, 7 RBIs, two home runs, a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage. In the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Breault drove in four of the nine runs, the first with an RBI single followed by a three-run home run, her second of the day and sixth of the season. Breault added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs against Missouri State on Wednesday to finish the week with a .636 average and nine RBIs over four games.

Arkansas (28-25, 10-15 SEC) will wrap up conference play this weekend when they travel to Auburn, Ala., for a three-game series with the Tigers. First pitch for Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game are both schedule for 1 p.m.
