Brewer Modica Ferguson Earn SEC Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ Ronnie Brewer is a first-teamer for the second straight year, Jonathon Modica is back on the all-conference team and Eric Ferguson is the Sixth-Man of the Year on the coaches All-Southeastern Conference team released by the league on Wednesday.

Brewer is a repeat first-team selection. Last year, he became the first Razorback to make the first team since Corliss Williamson and Scotty Thurman in 1995.

Modica earned second-team honors two years ago as a sophomore and he’s back on the second team this year.

Ferguson has keyed this year’s late-season run by the Razorbacks as a starter, but he is the league’s Sixth-Man of the Year after starting just six of 28 games.

Brewer leads the SEC in scoring (18.6) and steals (2.48), and he is eighth in free throw percentage (.739). Brewer, who is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, which goes to the top collegiate player in the nation, has led the team in scoring 20 times, in rebounding nine times and in assists eight times. He had 24 points in the win over No. 10 Florida. In the win over Alabama, his three-point play with 20 seconds left was the difference. He had nine points, five rebounds and nine assists in the win at No. 10 Tennessee.

Brewer is 17th on UA’s all-time scoring list (1,366), eighth on the career steals chart (205) and 12th on the free throws list (312).

This is the third honor for Brewer this year after earlier being named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District VII and the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 9 teams.

Modica is sixth in the SEC in scoring (16.0), sixth in field goal percentage (.474) and 10th in free throw percentage (.725).

Modica has led the team in scoring eight times this year, has scored in double figures 76 times in his career and had 20 or more points 20 times.

His 37-point outing against South Carolina ties for the high in the SEC this year and is the highest-scoring game for a Razorback since Al Dillard scored 39 against Delaware State in 1994.

Modica is 13th on UA’s all-time scoring list (1,537), seventh on the three-point goals list (152) and 12th on the free throw list (309).

Ferguson is averaging 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals, but in the last five games in which he’s started, his numbers are 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals.

He is 28th on Arkansas’ scoring list (1,019), fourth on the career assists list (369) and sixth on the three-point goals chart (154).

Heading into Thursday’s first round of the SEC Tournament at Nashville, Tenn., Brewer, Modica and Ferguson have helped the Razorbacks to a 21-8 record and a 10-6 finish in the SEC, which tied Alabama for second in the Western Division.
