Bucknam Collects South Central Region Top Honors

USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS – Following his program’s exceptional display at the NCAA West Preliminary, Arkansas men’s track and field head coach Chris Bucknam has been named the NCAA South Central Region Coach of the Year, announced Monday afternoon by the USTFCCCA.

The regional honor is Bucknam’s third of the year bringing his record to a perfect 3-0 through the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

At the helm of the Razorback men’s team since 2008, Bucknam has guided Arkansas to five Southeastern Conference outdoor titles and six top-10 outdoor national finishes, two of which Arkansas placed as one of the three best teams in the country.

Most recently Bucknam coached Arkansas to its 15th SEC Triple Crown which aided in producing 41 NCAA Preliminary qualifiers, the most of any program in the nation. Bucknam’s crew continues to lead the NCAA in national entries as the Razorback men advanced almost half of their qualifiers from the first round to final-site competition this weekend at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon.

Arkansas will begin its quest for national success on Wednesday, June 8 with the decathlon at 2:30 p.m. CST.
