Butler fourth at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – The No. 12 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team closed out its weekend action Saturday at the 53rd Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. LaShawn Butler was the Razorbacks lone representative of the day and finished fourth in the invitational section of the 200 meters.

Running out of lane two, Butler crossed in a time of 20.81, just .01 off his personal best. His career best of 20.80 was run last season in the finals of the event at the NCAA West Prelims in Austin, Texas. Based on time entering this weekend, Butler is tied for the fifth-best mark in the SEC this season with his performance Saturday.

In the late session of Friday’s competition on the track, Eric Fernandez won the ‘A’ section of the university 5,000 meters in a personal-best time of 13:54.33. The Razorback sophomore ran with the front pack for a majority of the race before taking the lead for good over the final 800 meters of the race. With his performance, Fernandez took 12 seconds off his previous best of 14:06.32 run last season at Penn Relays.

Rick Elliott and Cameron Efurd ran in the ‘C’ section of the university 5,000 meters to close out the Razorbacks’ schedule last night. Elliott posted a time of 14:37.28 while Efurd, in his debut at the distance, crossed in a time of 14:39.01. The time was a personal best for Elliott.

The Razorbacks return to the track April 22-23 for the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville. Friday’s competition begins at noon with the hammer throw while action on Saturday gets underway at noon with the hurdle events.
