California Road Trip for Mary Nutter Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For a second-consecutive season, the University of Arkansas softball team will head west for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Play begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. (CT) against Loyola Marymount at the Big League Dreams complex in Palm Springs, California. This weekend’s games will be streamed live through FloSoftball (subscription required).

Against the Field
Arkansas carries an 8-4 combined record against the five teams its set to face at the Mary Nutter Classic, including a 5-1 mark against Loyola Marymount. The team will also play CSUN (2-2 series record), Illinois (0-1), San Diego (1-0) and Kent State (first meeting). At last year’s Mary Nutter Classic, the Razorbacks posted a 4-1 record and hit 11 home runs.

SEC Player of the Week
Senior Nicole Schroeder was named the SEC Player of the Week after hitting .636 with three home runs, nine RBI and five runs scored at the season-opening North Texas Invitational. It was Arkansas’ first weekly recognition since Clarisa Navarro was honored during the 2014 season. Overall, the Razorbacks combined to hit 10 home runs during the opening weekend with additional round trippers from Madison Yannetti (3), Katie Warrick (2), Haydi Bugarin (1) and Autumn Russell (1).

Opening Statement
Arkansas opened the 2017 campaign with a 4-0 record at the North Texas Invitational, while also out-scoring its opponents by a 39-1 margin. It was the Razorbacks’ first undefeated opening weekend since starting 5-0 in 2013.

Two Outs? No Problem
At the season-opening North Texas Invitational, the Razorbacks scored 26 of their 39 runs with two outs on the scoreboard. Additionally, six of the 10 home runs that weekend were also hit with two outs.

On the Road
The Razorbacks are scheduled to play their first 15 games on the road, making their home debut March 3 with day one of the Wooo Pig Classic. Arkansas will play host to IUPUI, Lamar and Nebraska at the home event. General admission is free for all home games at Bogle Park this season.
