Cappelen, Tracy earn SEC honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Sebastian Cappelen and junior Ethan Tracy of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team were each honored by the Southeastern Conference office on Monday afternoon with the release of postseason awards.

Cappelen and Tracy were each named to the All-SEC second team by the league coaches while Cappelen was also named to the All-Freshman squad. This is the sixth time in Arkansas history’s in the SEC that it has had two players named to one of the two all-SEC squads and the first time that the Razorbacks have had a player earn all-conference and all-Freshman team honors in the same season.

"Sebastian and Ethan have been our most consistent golfers all season," Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said. "These honors are well deserved for both and I am happy to see that the league coaches recognize their outstanding play throughout the course of the year."

Cappelen is the fourth Razorback to ever earn all-Freshman team honors and the 14th player to be named to either the first or second all-conference team. Last week he became the second Arkansas player to be named to the prestigious Palmer Cup team and leads the Razorbacks in stroke average this season at 71.28, the second lowest in Arkansas history for a single season. His three-round score, 199, at the Border Olympics is the lowest by an Arkansas player since the early part of the decade and believed to be the lowest score ever by an Arkansas player.

Tracy earns his second conference honor with his second team selection after being named to the all-Freshman squad in 2009. This year, the Hilliard, Ohio, native ranks second on the team in stroke average at 72.09 and has six top 10 and nine top 20 finishes in 11 tournaments this season. He posted a season best finish when he tied for second at the David Toms Intercollegiate, shooting six-under par for the tournament.

The Razorbacks continue to practice in anticipation of the announcement of the NCAA Regional assignments scheduled for early May.
