Cloer named to SEC Community Service Team

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas sophomore Whitney Cloer was named to the 2007 Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team, the league announced today. The Edmond, Okla., native was selected for giving back to her community in superior service efforts. Lady Razorback softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he believed Cloer is worthy of the recognition because of her commitment to the community. “Whitney is very deserving,” said Pinkerton. “She does a lot of work in the community. I think it’s only fitting for her to make the community service team.” Cloer participated in Razorbacks for Christmas, where athletes encourage and provide toys for underprivileged children. She assisted with a Thanksgiving Food Drive and the United Way Hayride, and visited a nursing home for Halloween, handing out candy and visiting with the residents Cloer works with the Sweat Hawgs, promoting physical fitness in regional elementary schools and also participates in Razorbacks for Kids. She is a mentor at the Kanakuk, an athletic Christian camp, and is also a member of the Arkansas Athletes’ Outreach program. As the softball representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Cloer represented Arkansas at the SAAC Leadership Conference. In the classroom, Cloer was named to the 2006 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll and the Spring 2006 Arkansas Women’s Athletic Honor Roll. On the field, Cloer led the team in slugging percentage and was second in RBIs, home runs and doubles.
