Coach @TomCollen Believes In @RazorbackWBB After Win

FAYETTEVILLE — Snapping a three-game losing streak with a win over Florida on Thursday night, University of Arkansas women’s basketball head coach Tom Collen met members of the media on Friday to recap the win and preview the team’s upcoming road matchup against No. 6/7 South Carolina.

A big key to the home win over Florida was the contribution from Razorbacks Kelsey Brooks and McKenzie Adams. The freshmen combined to score 25 points on the night, as Brooks had 15 points and seven steals, while Adams added 10 points of her own.

"McKenzie stepped up and had some big 3-pointers," Collen said. "She dribble penetrated and had a couple of good jumpshots that she knocked down. Kelsey Brookswas great on the defensive end and also hit three big 3-pointers for us. Those are the players that were making 3-pointers for us earlier in the season. When they’re making those threes, it opens things up and takes a little bit of pressure off of us."

The win came at an opportunistic time for the Razorbacks, who now look to translate the momentum of snapping a losing streak and piece together a late-season winning streak. With six games remaining in the regular season, Arkansas faces a stiff test in having to travel to Colubmia, S.C., to face SEC-leading South Carolina on Sunday.

"You don’t want to go in and face arguably one of the best teams in the conference dead," Collen said. "South Carolina is a team that we already lost to at home and we didn’t want to come in on a four-game losing streak. I think that win (against Florida) gives us a fighting chance. I told the players after the game that I really do believe this team can beat any team in the league.

"To beat South Carolina on the road, we’re going to have to play really, really well. But, I think this team is capable of playing really, really well."

Arkansas and No. 6/7 South Carolina are scheduled to tip from Columbia, S.C., at 1 p.m. Sunday.
