FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas baseball head coach Dave Van Horn met with the Swatter’s Club on Monday as the group held their first meeting of the 2012 baseball season. Following the meeting, Coach Van Horn spoke with members of the media and gave an update on how practice is going through the first couple of weeks. “Practices are well advanced over any we’ve had here just because of the weather,” Coach Van Horn said. “The pitching staff is obviously ahead of the hitters. This past weekend they (the pitching staff) were outstanding, almost to the point where they dominated us a little bit. Hitters are working hard. When you face this type of staff every day, it’s got to make us better for down the road.” Coach Van Horn also addressed the high expectations surrounding this year’s club, which opens the season as a consensus top 10 ranked team. “Obviously, there are a lot of high expectations and the preseason polls throw a little fuel on the fire.” Coach Van Horn said. “As a staff, we thought we were going to have a good club this year. We thought last year that we would have a good team this year. I know our players are excited. We’re going to find out a lot about our club early in the season.” Swatter’s Club meetings are held the first Monday of each month during baseball season at the Clarion Inn in Fayetteville. The cost to attend is $11, which includes the buffet lunch, which starts at 11 a.m., and a drink. Swatter’s Club meetings will also be held on March 5, April 2 and May 7. Arkansas opens the 2012 season on Friday, February 17, at 3:05 p.m. against Villanova at Baum Stadium. Season tickets for Arkansas’ 36-game home schedule are now on sale. Season tickets are $190 for adults and $140 for University of Arkansas staff, youth and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647) or by visiting the online ticket center at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
