Davis Leads Razorbacks to Exhibition Game Win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Razorback junior Brandon Davis scored 17 points and collected six rebounds to lead Arkansas to a 100-68 exhibition game win over the EA Sports All Stars at Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night.
Davis was one of five Hogs in double-digits in Arkansas’ second win in as may tries in the exhibition season. Sophomore Jason Gilbert scored 14 points including hitting four three-pointers in the victory. Sophomore Brandon Dean and freshman Blake Eddins each scored 13 points a piece while sophomore Teddy Gipson posted 12 points. EA Sports’ David Van Dyke led all scorers with 24 points.
“We executed better, played better defense and got after them,” Arkansas head coach Nolan Richardson said. “We were able to play everyone in double figure minutes. We looked at a lot of combinations. I was satisfied with the effort.”
The Razorbacks posted a 22-10 run in the last 8:40 of the first half to take control despite their lackluster free throw shooting. Arkansas missed its first 11 free throw attempts of the game until senior Chris Walker hit one free throw with 1:49 left in the half.
“The disappointing part was our free throw shooting,” Richardson said. “We missed our first 11 and it looked like we wouldn’t make one. We don’t shoot that badly in practice. We will shoot a lot of free throws in practice the next couple of days.”
Arkansas will open its regular season on Monday against Texas-Arlington at Bud Walton Arena. The contest is scheduled to tipoff at 7:05 p.m.
