Day One Of Southern Intercollegiate Championships Conclude
ATHENS, Ga. – Four Razorbacks advanced in their respective winners brackets in individual play on Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Georgia.

In the Division I bracket, junior Matias Gonzalez opened play for the Razorbacks with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Georgia Gwinnett’s Frederico Herrera Duran. Gonzalez moved on to the round of 32, where he defeated the No. 8 seed Fabian Fallert of Ole Miss 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Junior Oscar Mesquida recorded a straight set victory over Florida Atlantic’s Anthony Schohn, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Josh Howard-Tripp fell to Amgus Bradshaw 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-3 in his first collegiate match.
After winning the first set of his collegiate career, freshmen Alex Reco fell to Mercer’s Olivier Stuart 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the Division II bracket. Freshman Jose Alonzo won 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 over Stetson’s William Shkrob. Junior Branch Terrell defeated Chase Bernstine (Virginia Tech) 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, to advance to the round of 16 in the Division II bracket.
In the Division III bracket, freshman Josh Bortnick picked up his first collegiate victory, defeating Marwan Abaza (FAU) 7-6, 2-6, 7-5, before falling to Omar El-Moslemany (Lander) 6-3, 6-3.
A total of four Razorbacks made their collegiate debut on Friday.
In doubles action, the duo of Josh Tripp-Howard and Branch Terrell fell toHenry Patten and Oli Nolan (UNC Asheville) 8-4.
