FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas officially opened the 2005 baseball campaign on Monday morning with the first practice of the spring. The Razorbacks worked for approximately two hours in the Walker Pavilion before heading to Baum Stadium to get in some hitting.
“These guys are ready to get back on the field and start preparing for this season,” Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. “We had a very competitive fall and I expect that to carry over for the next few weeks. We have 21 practices until we lace it up for a game. We just need to concentrate on getting better every day.”
Arkansas is hoping to parlay the momentum of last year’s Cinderella season into another strong showing in 2005. Last season, the Razorbacks were picked last in the Southeastern Conference’s Western Division. By June, the Hogs had not only won the conference title they found themselves in Omaha in the College World Series. Arkansas finished the season 45-24 boasting both the SEC overall and SEC Western Division crowns.
The Hogs open the season on a seven-game road trip beginning with a date with Dallas Baptist on Feb. 11. Arkansas opens its home schedule on Feb. 25 against Minnesota.
