Diamond Hogs Wrap Up Four-Game Homestand with ORU

No. 9 Arkansas welcomes Oral Roberts to Baum Stadium on Tuesday, March 13, at 5:35 p.m. to wrap up a four-game homestand.

The Razorbacks are 13-5 on the season after sweeping Kansas this past weekend with a strong effort from the pitching staff. UA hurlers posted a 2.33 ERA for the weekend, including a 4-0 shutout by Nick Schmidt on Saturday.

It will be the 92nd meeting with Arkansas owning a 59-32 edge in the all time series and a 5-3 lead since Hogs’ skipper Dave Van Horn returned to his alma mater in 2003. The Golden Eagles return to Baum Stadium for the first time since they captured the 2006 NCAA Fayetteville Regional.

ORU, led by fourth-year head coach Rob Walton, enters the game with a three-game winning streak and a 7-8 record for the season. The Golden Eagles beat Missouri State in the midweek and took to games from Central Arkansas over the weekend before Sunday’s finale was rained out.

Oral Roberts has played a tough schedule early in 2007 with three-game series at TCU, at Baylor and at Texas. The Golden Eagles are 1-8 in those games, winning the third game of the Baylor series. ORU is hitting .244 as a team and averaging 5.7 runs per game. The pitching boasts a 4.63 ERA and a .279 opponent batting average.

For the Razorbacks the ORU game will be the final tune-up before Southeastern Conference play begins in Lexington, Ky., on Friday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. from Cliff Hagan Stadium against the undefeated and defending SEC champion Kentucky Wildcats.

Duke Welker will get the start on the mound for the Hogs vs. ORU. He is 2-0 on the season with a 5.40 ERA. The right-hander is making his first appearance since lasting just two-thirds of an inning in a start at Minnesota on March 4.

ORU will counter with RHP Erik Crichton, who is making his first start of the season with a 0-3 record and a 6.00 ERA. He has pitched 12 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits while walking seven and striking out four
