Distance runners set for Stanford

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback women’s track and field will send a group of distance runners to the Stanford Invitational this weekend. The two-day event will take place Fri.-Sat., March 27-28 at Stanford’s Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Expected to compete for Arkansas this weekend are sophomore Jillian Rosen and freshman Samantha Learch in the 1,500 meters, junior Megan Jackson and freshman Cali George in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, seniors Denise Bargiachi and Christine Kalmer and sophomore Catherine White in the 5,000 meters and junior Ashley Williams in the 10,000 meters.

Teams scheduled to compete include Auburn, Boston College, Iowa, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Washington and Wisconsin.

Field events will begin at 12:30 p.m. CST with running starting at 1:45 p.m. CST on Friday. Saturday will begin with field events at 11 a.m. CST and running events at 11:50 a.m. CST. Live results will be available at ArkansasRazorbacks.com and a complete meet recap will be available after each day of competition.

After the first weekend of outdoor competition, Arkansas student-athletes hold the top spot in the SEC in the 800 meters (Rosen), 1,500 meters (Kalmer), 3,000 meters (Rosen), 4×400-meter relay and long jump (Whitney Jones).

Last weekend at the UC Irvine Spring Break Classic, the Razorbacks picked up seven event wins and six regional qualifiers. Events wins included the pole vault, long jump, 200 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters and the 4×400-meter relay.

Senior Sarah Landau led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Razorbacks in the pole vault. She cleared 12-11.5 to take the win. Junior Janice Keppler, sophomore Tara Diebold and freshman Tina Sutej tied for second with their clearances of 12-7.5. All four cleared the regional-qualifying height.
