Dorrell named SEC Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior volleyball player Jessica Dorrell earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors the league office announced Monday.

A 5-11 outside hitter from Aledo, Texas, Dorrell led Arkansas to a pair of SEC wins including an upset victory over No. 5 Florida last weekend.

"It was a great weekend for everyone and certainly Jess had a very consistent weekend," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "Jessica played great in both matches and I’m proud to see her step up and be a difference-maker this weekend. She’s had a great year and we’re looking forward to her having just as much success in the second half of SEC play."

Dorrell hit .289 against the Gators and South Carolina with a 23-kill performance against Florida. She added 17 digs, four blocks and averaged 4.25 kills per game for the weekend.

Dorrell ranks among the Arkansas leaders and has posted 18 matches with double figure kills this year. She tallied a career-best 26 kills in a win over Pepperdine and has been in double-digits in the last five matches Arkansas has played.

One of three seniors on the team, Dorrell is averaging 4.08 kills per game, hitting .245 and has 2.06 digs per game this year.

Dorrell leads the Lady Razorbacks on the road this weekend as Arkansas travels to No. 18 LSU and Ole Miss. Both matches air live in the Fayetteville area on KXUA 88.3 FM and on the internet at LADYBACKS.COM.
