FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ tennis team will make its 2005 home debut on Sunday, Jan. 23, with a doubleheader against the Bears of Southwest Missouri State at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center. The dual match marks the first of the season for the Hogs, who sent three players to compete individually in the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships last weekend in New Orleans, La.
“We’re excited to start the season off with a rare doubleheader,” Coach Robert Cox said, “We have a really big team this year, so we’re going to play as many guys as we can. They’re going to see a lot of changes in the rotation and lineup.”
The Hogs’ lineup will feature Rohan Gajjar, Matt Robers, Matt Simpson and Adrians Zguns playing in the 1-4 slots, with Evan Clark, Michael Jung, Jimmy Khougassian, Andrei Nicoara and Talley Parker competing in spots 5-9.
The Razorbacks begin the season ranked 22nd nationally, and have three individuals and one doubles team ranked as well. Juniors Zguns, Gajjar and Roberts are 56th, 77th and 121st, respectively. The doubles pair of Roberts and Imraan Ismail opens the season at No. 27.
The first match begins at noon at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center, located across from Bud Walton Arena on Razorback Road, with the following match set to begin at 4 p.m. There will be free pizza and refreshments.
