Echavarria Goes Low In Round Two

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – One of just three players in the field of 77 to finish in red numbers in the second round, Arkansas senior Nicolas Echavarria fired a one-under 69 on Saturday to help the Razorbacks move up two spots on the leaderboard at the Fighting Illini Invitational.

Led by Echavarria, the Razorbacks improved by three strokes from the first to second round, one of just five teams in the loaded 15-team field to do so. Arkansas enters the final round in 11^th place, just seven strokes outside the top seven. Out of the 15 teams in the field, 12 were ranked or received votes in the preseason Golfweek/Bushnell coaches poll.

Echavarria’s day began with a bogey-free two-under 32 on the course’s back nine en route to his team-low 69. The 69 backed up a solid opening round 73 on Friday and moved Echavarria up 21 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12^th place overall. Over the first two rounds, he is two-under on the back nine and leads the Razorbacks with six birdies.
