Eight Track Athletes Named to SEC Academic Hon

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Eight Razorback track athletes were named to the 2002 Southeastern Conference Men’s Track and Field Academic Honor Roll. Andrew S. Begley, Fernando Cabada, Evan Kirkconnell, Josh Landreth, Daniel Lincoln, Lloyds Meeks, Patrick Thomas, Ramon Washington and Phil Yoder made the list for Arkansas.
Lincoln earned All-American honors in cross country and indoor track this year. At the NCAA Indoor Championships he finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run and fourth in the 5,000-meter run. At the McDonnell Invitational Lincoln ran the steeplechase in the fastest time by an American this year with a time of 8:29.16.
Landreth registered three top ten finishes in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 52.59 during the outdoor season. Thomas also had three top ten finishes in the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs during the indoor season.
Cabada finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run at the SEC Indoor Championships with a time of 14:35.33. In the long and triple jump Washington had six top ten finishes during the indoor season.
Begley, Kirkconnell, Meeks and Yoder completed their eligibility last year.
The University of Georgia topped the list with 13 student-athletes on the academic roster. The University of Florida and Louisiana State University were close behind with 12 honorees each.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2002 SEC Men’s Track and Field Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-2001 academic calendar.
