Eric Brown Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.Senior Eric Brown has been named the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week it was announced by the league office on Wednesday. The Baldwin City, Kan., native won the javelin title last weekend at the Texas Relays with a winning toss of 245-10.

Brown’s winning mark was the best in the nation this season and the third-best in UA history. He eclipsed the regional qualifying standard on all six of his attempts. The performance helped him capture the javelin title at the Texas Relays for the second time in the past three years. He is the only Razorback in school history to win that javelin at the Texas Relays.

“It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “He has a lot character and he has put in plenty of hard work. Hopefully that is the beginning of a great season.”

Wednesday’s honor was the second league accolade for Brown this season. He was selected as a finalist for the Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. As a finalist, Brown earned a $5,000 scholarship for his post-graduate work.

Arkansas will travel to Walnut, Calif., this weekend to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays.
