Ervin named SEC Player of the Week; UA hosts SHSU Tuesday

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior post player Lauren Ervin was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for her back-to-back performances last week.

Ervin led Arkansas to wins over Missouri and Clemson with double-double games and career highs for assists and three-point goals.

Arkansas, 8-0, hosts Sam Houston State on Tuesday night at Bud Walton Arena. A win by the Lady Razorbacks will break the school record for the best start in school history with nine straight wins.

Ervin pulled down 16 rebounds with 20 points at Missouri, and handed out a career-high seven assists against the Big 12 team at Columbia on Wednesday of last week. Ervin also held the MU center to 0-of-9 from the field and picked up three blocked shots.

On Sunday with Clemson, Ervin’s 11 first-half points sparked Arkansas to a strong halftime lead, fueled by a pair of three-point goals. For the game, Ervin had three treys, a career best, in scoring 15 points with 12 rebounds.

The double-doubles with Missouri and Clemson moved Ervin to 14 for her career at Arkansas, moving her past former SEC player of the year Shameka Christon and Southwest Conference era star Monica Brown, both who had 13 doubles in their time at Arkansas.

A second-team all-SEC pick last year, Ervin leads Arkansas in scoring 14.9 ppg and 10 rpg this year.
