FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas head golf coach Shauna Estes is taking part with Pantene Beautiful Lengths to create wigs for women with cancer.
Estes takes part in the pony-tail cutting event Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., at Pinnacle Country Club. The event is being held in connection with the LPGA NW Arkansas Championship presented by John Q. Hammons this weekend.
“What a great event,” said Estes. “I’m honored to be a part of it and I’m looking forward to helping out.”
Estes and LPGA member Natalie Gulbis, among others, will be on hand to cut eight-inch, healthy ponytails from donors. The hair will be used to make free wigs for cancer victims.
In addition to Estes and Gulbis, several other local celebrities will take part in the local event and there are several celebrities from the entertainment world taking part nationwide.
In a surprise move, Arkansas sophomore Tiffany Phelps decided to volunteer her hair for the cause. She pulled her locks back into a pair of ponytails and Estes did the honors.
“I wasn’t planning it,” she said, “but it seemed like the right thing to do. It’s such a great cause and it is really great to be a part of it. I’ve never had short hair before!”
